Exploring the Oldest Town in England
Since I had a half day in Colchester on my own after everyone had left (tear), I decided to do lots of walking and try and see some of the sights.
Colchester is actually the oldest town on record in England, having been mentioned way back in AD 79, but in reality it was built on Roman foundations, meaning it could be even older! Colchester, as it stands today, was once the provincial Roman capital of Britain! The castle itself has a museum with artifacts that are 2500 years old!

To my surprise (and complete delight) they were having a car show in part of the Castle Park close to my hotel. Now, many of you may think, that’s weird that she would spend time (or money) on this, but let me tell you, it was WELL worth the £3 it cost me to get in.
These cars were ones I’ve only seen in movies and never at car shows we have back at home. I was in car geek heaven as I wandered up and down the rows. Here’s some of the majestic vehicles that I saw. Forgive me as I wipe up the drool from my chin!

After I’d spent way too much time oogling cars, I continued my explorations. I went to St Botolph’s Priory, which was built circa 1100! There’s not a lot that remains of it, but it was really interesting to see. Especially the grave that had the fence around it. Now I know it was actually meant for the more affluent folks to mark their plots or to prevent robbers (though I don’t understand this as they could just simply hop the fence), but I personally like to think it was meant to keep whatever was buried there from escaping! Overactive imagination huh?!
Tomorrow I’m off to Belgium, all day tomorrow travel for the most part. Wish me luck!
